Xiaomi has quietly introduced the new Redmi 17C 5G, skipping the Redmi 16C entirely. The phone appeared to have been listed prematurely on the website of a Luxembourg-based retailer, which revealed its images and full specifications before its official pricing was confirmed.

At the time of writing, Xiaomi has not confirmed the Redmi 17C 5G’s official pricing, so we don't yet know exactly how much the new budget phone will cost.

The Redmi 17C 5G is your typical budget 5G smartphone, featuring a large 6.9-inch LCD display, a MediaTek Dimensity 6300 processor, up to 256GB of storage, a 50MP main camera, a 6,000mAh battery, and 33W charging. And it also comes with a slightly refreshed design.

On paper, these are pretty decent specifications for a budget phone. But there's one problem: if you already own the Redmi 15C 5G, you basically already own the Redmi 17C 5G.

A Familiar Phone in a New Outfit

Despite the new name, the Redmi 17C 5G is essentially the same phone as the Redmi 15C 5G.

Xiaomi appears to have kept the same hardware and simply refreshed the exterior with a new back design and different color options. So unless you're looking closely at the name, there's very little here that makes this feel like a new generation.

It's somewhat similar to what Google did with the Pixel 10a and Pixel 9a, where the newer model doesn't bring a significant upgrade over its predecessor.

So, if you already have a Redmi 15C 5G, congratulations, you also have the Redmi 17C 5G.

For everyone else, the Redmi 17C 5G remains a fairly standard budget 5G phone. But until Xiaomi confirms its pricing, it's difficult to say whether it will actually be a good deal compared with the Redmi 15C and other competing budget phones.
