The TCL TV Buying Guide for 2026

If you've ever stood in front of a wall of TCL TVs and had no idea what the difference between an S5K and a P8L actually is, you're not alone. The good news is that TCL's whole lineup follows a pretty simple logic once you know the trick.

TCL’s current lineup can broadly be divided into five main series: S → V → T → P → C

As you move from S towards C, you generally get better display technology, higher performance and more premium features. However, that also means a higher price. Let’s break down what each series offers.

1. TCL S Series – The Cheapest TCL TVs

The S Series sits at the entry level of TCL’s lineup and is generally the cheapest TCL TV series you’ll find in Kenya. For 2026, one of the key models is the TCL S5K, which is available in 32-inch, 43-inch and 50-inch sizes. Despite being an entry-level series, the S5K still uses a QLED display, which can provide more vibrant colours than a basic LED TV.

However, there is an important compromise: the resolution is only 1080p on these models rather than 4K. The S Series therefore makes the most sense if your main priority is getting a TCL TV at a lower price and you don’t necessarily need 4K resolution. Great for a bedroom or a secondary TV, not so much if you're chasing sharpness on a big screen.

2. TCL V Series – Affordable 4K

Moving up to the V Series, the biggest upgrade is the move to 4K resolution. For 2026, the relevant model is the TCL V6D, available in sizes ranging from 43 to 75 inches. Unlike the S Series, the V Series uses a more conventional LED display rather than QLED. So while you gain 4K resolution, you lose the QLED technology found on the S Series.

One thing to keep in mind is TCL's yearly naming system. The letter at the end of the model number changes with each generation.

V6D — 2026

The V Series is therefore a good starting point if you want a 4K TCL TV without moving too far up the price range.

3. TCL T Series – 4K + QLED

The T Series takes the V Series concept and adds QLED technology. For 2026, that means the TCL T6D, available from 50 to 75 inches. It gives you the 4K resolution of the V Series while bringing back the QLED display technology from the lower-end S Series.

That makes the T Series a good middle ground for someone who wants 4K, QLED and a larger selection of screen sizes without moving into TCL's much more expensive Mini LED models.

4. TCL P Series – QD-Mini LED

This is where TCL's lineup starts getting significantly more premium.

The P Series moves to QD-Mini LED display technology. Compared with the cheaper LED and QLED models, Mini LED allows TCL to use much more precise backlighting, resulting in deeper blacks, better contrast and significantly higher brightness.

For 2026, the model available in Kenya is the TCL P8L, with screen sizes ranging from 55 to 85 inches.The P Series is also a much more interesting option for gamers. The P8L features a 144Hz refresh rate, making it capable of delivering smoother motion and a higher refresh rate for compatible gaming setups. And You also get 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage.

The previous generation was the TCL P7K, so once again, the model suffix has changed for the newer generation.

5. TCL C Series – TCL's Premium TVs

At the top of TCL's lineup is the C Series.

The C Series also uses QD-Mini LED, but this is where TCL starts pushing the technology much further. Compared with the P Series, the higher-end C Series models offer higher brightness, more powerful processing and more memory and storage. Depending on the model, you can get up to 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, along with TCL's more premium sound systems.

For 2026, the flagship option is the TCL C8L. There’s also the C7L, which sits below it in the current lineup. Older models are still worth considering too. The C6K from 2025 and C655 from 2024 can still be good options depending on their current prices and availability. The C8L is particularly interesting if you want a premium TCL TV without going into the most expensive offerings from brands like Samsung or LG.

So, Which TCL TV Series Should You Buy?

The best TCL TV for you depends on your budget and what you actually need.

If you just want an affordable TCL TV, the S Series is the entry point.

If you want 4K at a relatively affordable price, look at the V Series.

If you want 4K and QLED, the T Series is the step up.

If you want a significantly better picture with QD-Mini LED and a high refresh rate for gaming, the P Series is where things get interesting.

And if you want TCL's best picture quality, brightness, processing and sound, the C Series is the one to look at.

One important thing to remember is that TCL's model names change from year to year. So a model such as the V6D is a 2026 generation, while the V6C was the previous year's model. An older model isn't automatically worse either, if it is heavily discounted, it can sometimes offer better value than the newer model.
